BARLATA TRIP WITH CHEF OLIVELLA

9 days - 8 nights

Barlata Austin Texas

DANIEL OLIVELLA is Owner and Chef of Barlata restaurant in Austin, TX. Widely known for opening the first Catalan restaurant in California, SF’s B44, chef Olivella has been acting as an unofficial ambassador of Catalan food in the US for the last three decades.

Join chef Daniel Olivella's trip to his roots. A 9-day culinary journey around Catalonia with great restaurants and private visits to food producers. Enjoy the quietness of early Autumn by the sea at the beautiful town of Cadaqués, whose landscapes and magic vibe inspired Dalí, in an unforgettable food and wine tour.

This is the third time that chef DANIEL OLIVELLA and Aborígens work together to design a memorable culinary trip around Catalonia.

While our time in the country is going to build memories that are hard to forget, like foraging for mushrooms or cooking outdoor with producers, our journey starts in Barcelona, where you are going to meet a fellow chef and personal friend of Daniel’s for a welcome feast.

After some time in the capital, a city that is worth visiting for its rich cultural heritage, we will travel to the countryside to explore areas that play a big role in sausage and winemaking.

The next stop is probably one of the most beautiful coastal towns of the Mediterranean, Cadaqués. A white village where the splendor of the sea meets all forms of art and cooking.

Our journey wouldn’t be complete without sailing around the magic caves of Cap de Creus and cooking a fishermen stew with a local chef, right before returning to Barcelona for a farewell event at the private kitchen of one of chef Daniel’s friends.

"This is my annual trip back home in Catalonia, the country I left over three decades ago when I moved to United States. I come to see my family, meet the people I care about, taste the food of my childhood. And I want to share the experience with a reduced number of guests."

Any questions?

Let's try to answer them

WHAT IS DANIEL'S ROLE IN THE TOUR?

Besides of our very special host, Daniel Olivella is a Catalan native, which means that he can (and will) provide a cultural and historical context on Catalan gastronomy. As a renowned chef with a long experience, he is willing to share some useful tricks on cooking.

ARE WE GOING TO FIND TOURISTS IN PLACES THAT WE VISIT?

Since we can’t empty Barcelona and the whole country just for you, we are afraid not. However, all visits to wineries and food producers will be private just for the group, and the chefs and producers themselves will be hosting us to present their food.

HOW ARE WE MOVING FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER?

We have partnerhips with reliable and fully-licensed transport companies. All transfers included in the itinerary will be private, with a comfortable VIP-class minibus.

"Olivella unveils a vast and deep bounty of flavors in this heartfelt compendium."

"To eat or not to eat is a matter of money. Eating well or badly is a matter of culture."
